Clash tribute at Dukes

We keep on hearing good things about Dukes Bar on Old Dumbarton Road in Glasgow.

Handy for Kelvingrove Museum and Gallery, it has been through several incarnations since first opening way back in 1877.

Having recently come under new management (check the piano and disco ball), it’s developing a neat reputation for its avant-garde music events.

Kate Bush

Back in February, the bar hosted an homage to Kate Bush. Assorted local musicians, including Duglas from the BMX Bandits and Markee de Saw, took to the mic to perform their own versions of La Bush’s songs.

There is a similar event taking place tonight when the bar will be putting on an evening dedicated to The Clash.

Bizarre as it may seem, the iconic punk band played at Dukes thirty years ago as part of their final busking tour.

The Evening Times ran a good piece about the gig last year.

Pogo means prizes

Tonight, from 8pm, Gavin ‘Bobby The Barman’ Mitchell will be hosting alongside DJ Maxi Roots.

The line-up includes:
Duglas T Stewart of the BMX Bandits
Miss The Occupier
Chaz ‘n’ Co from Capone and the Bullets
The Gus & Fin Trio
Roy Moller

The bar will also be showing The Clash NYD 77 (click on pic above to watch it) and giving away a Clash item prize for best pogoing during Gus & Fin’s set.

NB, while energetic pogoing will be encouraged the bar stipulates that ‘NO PUNCHING OR STRANGULATION ALLOWED – IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION’.
