Jazz Festival Walking Tours announced
We are very excited to announce a new series of walking tours in partnership with Glasgow Jazz Festival.
Launched in 1987, the Festival is the city’s longest-running annual music event and we are proud to be part of it. The Festival is a showcase for the best international and home-grown talent. We hope that our tours will add a fresh angle to the event.
Commenting on the inclusion of the tours in the programme, Director of Glasgow Jazz Festival Jill Rodger said, “We’re delighted to be working with Glasgow City Music Tours. Over the last thirty years, the Festival has always embraced new ideas and the walking tours will give our audience a new way to experience the Jazz Festival”. Tour guests will hear about visits from the greats, including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan and Tony Bennett. We have stories of weird and wonderful rider requests, medical emergencies and the inside track on venues old and new.
We’ll reveal who was so nervous about performing they wore their shoes on the wrong feet, who had to be coaxed down a gangplank and the identity of the star who first set eyes on their venue and mutinously muttered, “I’m not going into that funky dump”.
Walk with us and get the inside track on how the Festival has used Glasgow’s enduring love affair with jazz and blues to help make it the vibrant live music city it is today.
Thanks to all at the Jazz Festival and our working partner, the continually brilliant team at the Scottish Music Centre for their help in making the tours possible.
The tours will run every day from Friday 24th June to Sunday 26th June.
The starting point is the Scottish Music Centre on Candleriggs. Start time 2pm.
Tickets can be bought via the Jazz Festival Programme.
