Mary Barbour: The Clutha Mural

A gala concert organised by the Remember Mary Barbour Association to raise funds to create a memorial to one of Glasgow’s greatest heroes takes place this Sunday at the Old Fruitmarket. Five sculptors were shortlisted to create a statue of her to be placed in her community of Govan.

Mary Barbour led the successful rent strike of 1915 and went on to play a leading role in the labour movement as a Glasgow Councillor and energetic social reformer.

This concert will feature some of Scotland’s leading performers in a great night of entertainment, song and music celebrating her life and work.

FOLK legends The Whistlebinkies will perform and other artists include Gaelic singer Maeve Mackinnon,  Siobhan Miller and folk legends Sheena Wellington and Arthur Johnstone.

Tickets for Remember Mary Barbour – Gala Concert are £25, from the Glasgow Concert Halls box office. http://www.glasgowconcerthalls.com or on 0141 353 8000.
